Key Responsibilities
- Driving & Delivery
Operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) or lorries to transport goods between locations.
Plan routes and meet delivery schedules.
Load and unload cargo (sometimes with assistance or using lifting equipment). - Safety & Compliance
Carry out daily vehicle checks (brakes, lights, tires, etc.).
Ensure compliance with traffic laws and transport regulations.
Keep accurate records of driving hours (tachograph use) and deliveries.
Follow health, safety, and environmental guidelines. - Customer Service
Communicate with clients, warehouse staff, and dispatchers.
Deliver goods professionally and handle delivery documents. - Maintenance
Report defects and arrange for repairs when necessary.
Keep vehicle clean and well-maintained.
Skills Required
- Good driving skills and road awareness.
- Ability to plan routes and manage time effectively.
- Physical fitness (for loading/unloading when required).
- Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle checks.
- Strong communication and record-keeping skills.
Typical Qualifications
- Valid HGV/LGV driving license (Category C or C+E depending on vehicle size).
- Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) .
- Tachograph card (for digital recording of driving hours).
- Experience in logistics or delivery is often preferred.
