The Opportunity
- Our Animal Health (AH) Research & Development site focus is the development of warm water fish vaccines for aquaculture farms around the globe.
- We have on our site an Aquatic Laboratory for housing experimental animals and Research Laboratory fully equipped to diagnose and identify novel fish pathogens.
- We are part of a global R&D network with footprint in all continents, operating in a highly dynamic environment to improve the health of animals.
What You Will Do
To perform independently, with supervision:
- Daily care, monitoring and recording of designated experimental animals as well as the daily maintenance of the animal holding facilities
- Routine biotechnical handling and treatments to the laboratory animals.
- Anaesthetize test animals when required
- To perform curative and/or preventative treatments for the laboratory animals in agreement with AH Supervisor and Attending Veterinarian
- To work according to GLP standards as described in SOPs.
- To maintain and/or improve the health status of the laboratory animals within the limits of the experimental protocols and after agreement of the Project leader.
- To suggest improvements of the holding facilities in order to improve animal well being
- To evaluate experimental protocols for their applicability and discuss/suggest alterations to the Project leader.
- Suggest changes to the animal holding facilities depending on the protocol or improved experience.
- To perform weekend maintenance tasks to the animals and the facilities.
Possible learning outcome:
- Exposure to the Research and Development environment of a major pharmaceutical company and therefore will be trained in relevant processes like standard operational procedures, Animal Husbandry and performing studies/experiments
- Learning research skills with support and guidance from section leads, further enhancing research skills such as experimental design and problem solving.
- As a mixed facility we have the possibility of offering hands-on experience on conducting research with live animals as well as in a well-equipped laboratory.
Qualifications & Job Requirements:
- Currently studying in a Diploma or Degree in a related field (Aquaculture, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences)
- Other fields may apply
- Proficient in MS Office
- Ability to communicate effectively in both a written and verbal format (English)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team structure
