The School of Economics (SOE) at Singapore Management University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenurable position at the rank of Senior Lecturer in Economics.
A Senior Lecturer in Economics is expected to:
(i) Deliver a total of eight (8) sections of undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses assigned by the Dean in consultation with the faculty member. In the first instance, we are seeking individuals to teach in our new Master of Data Science in Economics (MDSE) programme;
(ii) Develop teaching and learning materials, including (where appropriate) online content, videos, test banks, grading rubrics, adaptive learning tools, handouts, cases, and textbooks;
(iii) Provide guidance to students on course material, programme planning, course selection, and related academic matters; and
(iv) Contribute to SOE’s service activities, including participation in events, outreach activities, and engagement with stakeholders.
Applicants should have experience with active and blended learning pedagogies and a demonstrated track record of excellent teaching. A Ph.D. in Economics is preferred; however, candidates with a Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field and extensive teaching experience may also be considered
Preferred Professional and Technical Experience:
- At least five (5) years of experience teaching at the graduate level
- Experience in course design at both undergraduate and graduate levels
- A well-established network and demonstrated ability to engage with industry
- International experience in multidisciplinary teaching and/or research, particularly in mathematics, statistics, and econometrics
- Demonstrated leadership, especially in curriculum development
- Proficiency in Python and R for data science, especially in machine learning
- Experience working with Linux and the Bash command-line interface
