We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Vice President & Counsel to join our APAC Legal team. This role is located in Singapore - Hybrid.
The Counsel will be a key member of BNY’s Global Data, Intellectual Property, Technology & Innovation (DITI) Team within BNY’s Legal Department, focusing on enterprise-wide global privacy, cybersecurity, data use/governance, and technology innovation matters. This role is hybrid and will be located in Singapore.
We are looking for a passionate and innovative attorney who is enthusiastic about technology, data, and privacy and their potential for positive change in the financial services industry. You will be supporting the businesses that are working on the Bank’s critical cross-enterprise services and technologies for its clients using data, AI, and other cutting-edge tools. You must be an effective communicator, negotiator, a proven collaborator, and a practical advisor to help drive decision-making across multiple teams within Legal and other stakeholders including enterprise data management, privacy operations, incident response management, engineering, and public policy & government affairs. In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Serving as the sole attorney for DITI Legal in the APAC region responsible for managing relationships with key stakeholders and collaborating with APAC and global teams on issues and projects as they arise.
- Advising on the strategy, planning and implementation of APAC technology projects and the adoption of emerging technology (e.g., AI/ML, DLT) in the region.
- Partnering with Risk, Compliance, and Legal colleagues to advise on the development and deployment of digital products and services.
- Drafting client-facing technology agreements and providing support with client negotiations in collaboration with business product attorneys.
- Supporting Country Counsel on third-party technology agreement negotiations.
- Acting as legal strategic advisor for BNY’s Global Privacy Office, Privacy Compliance, Information Security Division, engineering, and business teams to deliver practical, risk-weighted guidance on data use, privacy, and cybersecurity.
- Providing legal support in responding to regulatory examinations and inquiries.
- Developing and conducting training programs to educate stakeholders on technology, outsourcing, privacy, and cybersecurity legal issues.
- Collaborating with business lines, public affairs, regulatory and regional colleagues in the review and consultation of legislative policies and proposals related to technology, outsourcing, privacy, and cybersecurity.
- Instructing and managing outside counsel on various matters.
- Staying up to date on technology, third-party risk, outsourcing, privacy, and cybersecurity regulatory developments as they relate to the financial services sector and advising senior stakeholders of their potential impact to BNY and its subsidiaries.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- 5+ years’ experience.
- Strong working knowledge of APAC technology, outsourcing, privacy, cybersecurity, and third-party risk laws as they relate to the financial services sector.
- Experience working on global technology projects.
- Experience with negotiating technology agreements and other services agreements.
- Experience advising on data use and governance matters as related to the development of new products and tools.
- Experience managing privacy and/or cybersecurity incident response.
- Fluency in English is required. Business proficiency in any other regional language would be an advantage but not prerequisite for the role.
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Must be articulate, organized, able to work in a collaborative manner and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and challenging, but highly rewarding environment.
- Proactive self-starter.
