[What the role is]
The National Heritage Board (NHB) preserves, presents and promotes the cultural heritage of Singapore, and the Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) is an institution of NHB. It is a purpose-built facility for the storage and conservation of the National Collection comprising artworks and artefacts. Its mission is to care for, manage and facilitate access to the National Collection.[What you will be working on]
[Specific Job Responsibilities]
The key areas of responsibility include, but not limited to:
Undertake material analysis for the care of the National Collections (Artefacts), such as investigating the composition make-up of artefacts, causes of artefact deterioration and detecting volatiles emitted from storage and display materials
Generate concise reports that are interpreted to the needs of stakeholders
Execute assigned Conservation Science research projects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders (e.g. conservators and curators).
Communicate research findings through conference presentations, article publications, outreach talks, tour visits, etc.
Support continuity of Conservation Science Laboratory operations, including equipment troubleshooting, giving equipment training to users and procurement of lab essentials.
Set-up and develop methods of analysis under guidance
May supervise student interns or participate in Working Group and / or Committee work.
May assist in budget forecasting and other administrative duties.

Work Experience & Knowledge
An ideal candidate should possess the following:
Background in scientific discipline, preferably Chemistry or Conservation Science with at least 1 year of lab working experience.
Work well independently as well as in a team.
Able to multi-task, show initiative, willing to learn from and teach others.
Key Competencies required in the role
[Knowledge in Art & Heritage Science]
Strong interest to work in an interdisciplinary environment requiring interfacing of arts, science and history, preferably with proven experience (e.g. internships, academic projects).
Basic knowledge or experience with machine learning and statistical techniques (e.g. PCA) is advantageous.
Hands-on experience using microscopy, grinder-polisher, spectroscopy or chromatography techniques (e.g. FTIR, Raman, SEM-EDS, Py-GC/MS) and other relevant techniques is advantageous.
[Project Management]
Demonstrate ability to manage and execute assigned research tasks or projects.
Foundational skills in conducting literature reviews, experimental design and academic writing are required.
[Quality of Execution]
Experience with basic method development and troubleshooting of scientific equipment is advantageous.
Possess track record of peer-reviewed publications in related discipline is advantageous.
