About the Role
Are you passionate about creating compelling video stories? As the assistant editor at The Straits Times’ Video desk, you will identify newsworthy and hottest stories, guide journalists to produce videos that resonate with our audiences, and collaborate with videographers, video editors and motion designers to produce videos.
You are a storyteller who can conceptualise, write and produce creative visual content which engages our audiences across web, app and social platforms. From vertical news shorts to short- and long-form explainers, you will craft and shape video stories for news, current affairs, and sociocultural stories.
You are able to flourish in a highly collaborative environment, actively working with cross-functional teams and the wider newsroom in producing varied visual content, which includes various platforms and interactive stories. You must have a strong command of English.
You are able to connect with the audience with a natural, conversational scripting style. A good sense of humour is an added advantage. Curiosity, resourcefulness and a willingness to learn are critical, as is a desire to stay up to date on the latest news, audience and content trends. It’s a bonus if you thrive on the rush of working to deadlines.
Job responsibilities include:
- Craft creative visual content for target audiences and experiment with concepts and formats eg explainers
- Guide and grow team of producers/videographers/video editors/motion designers to hone sharp angles and creative visual storytelling
- Conceptualise, script and produce videos for various platforms with an eye for accuracy
- Collaborate with journalists in the wider newsroom and cross-functional teams to develop visual stories
- Manage and publish videos on video platforms
- Stay on top of latest news, audience and content trends
- Engage with our team’s video analytics to shape editorial content
Job Requirements
- Relevant degree in Video Production, Journalism, English, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or any relevant fields
- At least five years of relevant experience
- Well-organised and a self-starter, capable of managing multiple projects and lead others
- Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with others
- Ability to write and produce video packages
- Ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in social media platforms and video publishing systems eg. YouTube, Instagram
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro
- Experience with producing live and studio programmes is an advantage
- Ability to present and do voice-overs is an advantage
- Knowledge of the importance of production set-up, lighting, filming to be able to direct team members, which includes producers, videographers, video editors, motion graphic artists
