The Position:
A prominent commodity trading firm is seeking a skilled Trader to join their Edible Oils desk in Singapore. Reporting to the Head of Trading, you will execute and manage physical and derivative trades, monitor market dynamics, and work closely with risk, operations, and finance teams to drive profitability and ensure seamless execution.
Main Responsibilities:
- Identify and analyse market trends for palm oil, soybean oil, and other edible oils to inform trading strategies
- Execute physical and futures contracts across regional exchanges, ensuring best execution and hedging practices
- Manage and optimise inventory, storage, and logistics to maximise margins and minimise carrying costs
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers, producers, and logistics partners
- Track and report P&L, exposure, and risk limits on a daily basis, escalating breaches as needed
- Collaborate with operations and finance teams to ensure accurate trade capture, settlement, and invoicing
- Conduct in-depth market research—weather, crop reports, import/export data—to support decision-making
- Build and maintain relationships with counterparties, brokers, and industry stakeholders
Skills & Experience:
You will have a bachelor degree in Finance, Economics, Agriculture, or a related field, plus 3 to 6 years of trading experience in edible oils or a closely related soft commodities market. Proven ability to structure and execute complex physical and futures trades, with strong quantitative acumen. Familiarity with market-data platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv) and risk-management tools. Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to fast-changing market conditions. CFA or equivalent certification is a plus.
