Who we are looking for
The Compliance Specialist will provide compliance advisory support as the second line of defense to the Singapore office of State Street Global Advisors. The individual will be reporting to the APAC Head of Compliance and be responsible to lead the local compliance function which includes providing compliance advice to local management, assessment of applicable compliance risks, monitoring and reporting on regulatory developments, acting as liaison with local regulators, providing an independent viewpoint on Compliance Risk and escalating material matters.

What you will be responsible for
As the Compliance Specialist in Singapore, you will have the following general responsibilities:
  • Provide ongoing compliance advisory and licensing support to local senior management and business team;
  • Provide advice on and participate in new business initiatives and financial product launches, and conduct suitability reviews;
  • Educate compliance and business personal on applicable compliance-related rules and regulations;
  • Advise business personnel on the effectiveness of control design and implementation across business lines;
  • Escalate compliance issues or concerns to the attention of senior management;
  • Review marketing materials and refine the assessment process using risk-based considerations;
  • Manage key projects from the initiation and planning stages through execution and completion;
  • Interact with regulatory agencies and internal/external legal staff on regulatory exams, inquiries and filings;
  • Support the continuous enhancement of company’s compliance monitoring program and risk assessment;
  • Prepare, conduct and present annual and periodic compliance program reports/reviews to satisfy clients, regulators, and internal management requirements, where applicable; and
  • Developing, implementing, and administering compliance policies and procedures.

Education & Preferred Qualifications
  • University degree preferably in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Law or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 6-8 years' experience in the Compliance or regulatory functions at a large financial institution, preferably asset management company, or financial services regulator.
  • Demonstration of sound knowledge in MAS requirements related to registered collective investment schemes, and applicable regulations for investment managers. Knowledge of rules and regulations in South East Asia a plus.
  • Good knowledge of industry best compliance / regulatory practice, together with relevant fund management, dealing and distribution practices and procedures
  • Ability to take ownership and initiative, to negotiate, influence and build consensus and successfully navigate within a demanding and international environment of a leading global financial institution
  • Strong abilities in analytical thinking, problem solving, research, time management, and verbal and written communication
  • Capable of producing high quality and/or final work product and solutions under strict regulatory or management deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and able to communicate and present issues to senior management effectively.
