Job Summary:
The Import-Export Specialist is responsible for managing end-to-end logistics and documentation processes related to the international movement of marine parts, equipment, and materials. This role ensures timely and cost-efficient clearance, shipment, and delivery of goods to ports and warehouses, while maintaining compliance with local and international marine trade regulations. Serve as the liaison between warehouse, forwarders, and vessel operation teams.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage import/export shipments via sea, air, and cross-border trucking.
- Ensure correct classification (HS code) of marine products and proper use of Incoterms.
- Liaise with shipping agents, freight forwarders, and customs brokers for timely clearance and release of goods.
- Prepare and review shipping documents: commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and import permits.
- Maintain certifications to allow for handling air and ocean shipments for export
- Maintain good relationships with carriers, forwarders and 3rd party logistics suppliers.
- Negotiate competitive rates with logistics vendors and propose cost-saving solutions.
- Maintain accurate shipment logs and documentation.
- Review all orders assigned to warehouses of responsibility and communicate any problems to management.
- Provide immediate feedback for deliveries/shipments that will not be completed as required.
- Understand trends at assigned port locations and communicate with manager.
- Generate monthly reports on lead time, clearance time, and shipping cost KPIs.
Required / Desired Knowledge, Experiences and Skills:
- 5-7 years of import/export experience is required
- Freight forwarding experience a plus
- Strong analytical skills are required
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills required
- Strong knowledge of customs clearance for marine equipment and spare parts.
- Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Free Zones, and bonded warehouse processes.
Education/Certifications:
- Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, or related field.
Physical Working Environment:
- Climate controlled office environment and required the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
