Position Overview
The Enclosures Mechanical Design Engineer will specialise in the design, specification and manufacture of Enclosure range, focusing on Hazardous Area and supporting the industrial product range. The role is responsible for specifying enclosure assembly arrangements in line with client requirements, creation of drawings and CAD models and assisting with the creation of BOMs and production documentation. This role will play a key part in product expansions, engineering updates to the product lines and having key input into product development. The ability to effectively communicate with cross functional teams and clients across time zones is key, and this role is centrally placed to support growth in the Asia Pacific region.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for creation of both Hazardous Area and Industrial enclosure drawings for quote, manufacture and assembly.
- Creation of assembly drawings in line with client requirements using AutoDesk Inventor & Vault software and internal ETO system.
- Input into MRP data maintenance around BOMs, part code generation and configuration.
- Feedback to central teams ongoing ETO system developments to ensure compliance and continued effectiveness through application diversification.
- Prepare Matrix approval on every order for traceability and documentation records.
- Design and development of enclosure variations for project orders from conception through to production.
- Oversee testing and certification processes of product development and minor variations (environmental testing, certification approval etc).
- To conduct QA/QC inspections
- Drive continuous optimisation of product design to reduce cost of production.
- Interact with local suppliers to ensure technical specifications and quality processes are robust and quality product is manufactured.
- Prepare Fabrication drawings to approved vendor supplier on every Orders.
- Collaborate with global technical and operational teams to troubleshoot issues and facilitate a transition to local supply.
- Interact directly with clients to develop quote and order approval.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (UL, IEC, NEMA, ISO) and customer specifications.
- Stay updated on emerging trends in both hazardous and industrial enclosure design, materials, and manufacturing technologies.
Skills and Experience
- Proficient in the use of CAD systems for 3D modelling and drawing generation (Autodesk Inventor & Vault Preferred).
- 3+ years of demonstrable experience in an applicable field such as sheet metal fabrication and/or polymer injection moulding.
- Familiarity with industrial drawing standards (ISO 9001, IEC/EN 60529, Drawing Standards)
- Knowledge of wiring processes, basic electrical principles and relevant components.
- Design and validation of electrical enclosures including internal electrical apparatus.
- Exposure to Hazardous Area products will be beneficial but not essential.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage their own workload.
- Strong Verbal and written English language is a necessity due to the global nature of the role.
Education
- Diploma, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
