Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare effective organized sport and recreational opportunities for students to engage in during break and lunch times. Set up, manage and supervise recreational activities.
- Keep equipment in good working order and monitor that it is safe for use.
- Provide social and emotional support to students.
- Support positive student behavior by working collaboratively with teachers, counselors, deans, instructional assistants, and Principals.
- Collaborate with the Activities and Athletics Director to design sport and recreational opportunities to catch various interests and engage a wide range of students.
- Work alongside the MS Activity and Athletics team to support after school athletics and arts events.
- Promote the Activities and Athletics schedule and create activities during break/lunch that spark interest and connect students to programming that exists in the afterschool time.
- Work to ensure that the school's safeguarding commitments and Middle School Community Agreements are followed during planned sport and recreational activities.
- Keep current in education through coursework, in-service programs, and by attending professional meetings and conferences, as required.
- Remain proficient in school-related technologies, as applicable to the role.
- Represent SAS with students, parents, staff, and broader school community in a professional manner.
- Remain open and flexible in daily work assignments to meet the dynamic needs of the school, completing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
- Diploma from a recognized Polytechnic, or equivalent
- 3 or more years of experience working with students, ideally from ages 11-14 (Grade 6-8)
- Experience with current best practices, current teaching materials, and current instructional strategies as well as recent professional growth activities
- Focused on social and emotional learning through productive game play
- Preferred training or experience in sports administration.
