The School of Humanities is looking for a Research Associate to support LanTERN (Language Evolution through Trees, Entropies, Reconstruction, and Networks), a project investigating the linguistic and cultural histories of East and Southeast Asia.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include conducting independent research, participating in project events, contributing to academic discussions and dissemination, supporting data curation, tracking project milestones, and assisting with report preparation. The role offers an excellent opportunity to engage in both traditional and computational linguistic research as part of a collaborative and interdisciplinary team.
Job Requirements:
- A Master’s degree in linguistics or a relevant field
- Strong interest in linguistics research, particularly in language evolution and endangered languages
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) for effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in data processing tools (e.g., Google Sheets, Excel) and office applications
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively, while also collaborating within a team-oriented environment
- Basic knowledge of data management practices (e.g., organising and securely storing research materials) is an advantage
- Prior experience in data management or multilingual research is advantageous
- Experience in linguistics or multilingual research is preferred, though not a strict requirement
