The Opportunity
- Contribute to the achievement of operational objectives for the underwriting function and/or business unit
- Contribute to the development the annual business plan for the portfolio, monitor and report on progress, identify deviations, recommend remedial action and implement it, in order to achieve business objectives
- Participate in meetings, as required, to contribute and support the development of strategy, share knowledge and best practice
- Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
- Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risks and maximize efficiency with contribution to continuous quality improvement processes
Your New Role
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with all customers, intermediaries and internal stakeholders
- Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively and appropriately
- Evaluate risk for new business in accordance with standards, to ensure profitable growth
- Identify new business opportunities and self-insurance prospects
- Establish appropriate measurement techniques and reporting systems
- Build strong knowledge of current legislation, best practice, underwriting acceptance levels, systems and organizational guidelines
- Contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes
About You
- Act as a technical expert to support the identification of issues and opportunities within the specified insurance class and provide efficient and timely service to brokers and clients
- Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviors and management best practice so as to support the achievement of business goals
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to analyze data use for decision-making with commercial acumen
- 10+ years of underwriting experience
- Established customer/broker relationships
