Our client is a SGX listed group which is well established in the real estate industry. Its global HQ is in Singapore and the office is based in town.
For this role, it reports to the CFO (at HQ level based in Singapore). You will act as the Deputy-CFO and be responsible for all finance and tax functions, including management and financial reporting, annual budgeting, long-range business planning, business partnership, stakeholder management, operational management, M&A and business development, tax planning, advisory and compliance.
You should possess solid technical accounting skills and a strong business and commercial mindset. Big-4 audit firm exp, combined with finance experience in the corporate sector (preferably in the real estate sector) is preferred. Specialised tax experience will be advantageous.
The individual should have effective influencing and interpersonal skills, be highly-driven, visionary, resilient, creative, equipped with deep digital and business transformation skills, and embraces a continuous improvement work culture.
Roles and Responsibilities
Finance (Primary Role)
- Responsible for the firm’s strategic planning, reporting, budgeting, tax, corporate governance, and compliance with SGX listing requirements.
- Own the financial planning & analysis (FP&A) function, including forecasting, budgeting, and reporting. Provide data-driven insights to support executive decision-making.
- Evaluate variances to budgets and propose remedial actions, and continuously follow-up to rectify deviations in a timely manner.
- Business partnership with leadership teams across the organisation to drive financial strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and agreed budget.
- Lead financial and enterprise risk assessment and mitigation strategies, including procuring insurance policies to protect the Company’s interest.
- Develop and maintain robust financial controls and compliance frameworks.
- Optimize financial processes to enhance efficiency and scalability, including adoption of digital initiatives to streamline workflows and improve data and financial accuracy.
- Support the leadership team in potential M&As, JV, or strategic investment initiatives. Intimately involved throughout the process, from start to finish, including post-completion integration with the firm’s reporting requirements, systems and processes.
- Work closely with the Audit Committee and Board of Directors to deliberate key finance and strategic matters, and actively execute on the decisions made.
- Build strong relationships with external partners including banks, auditors, tax agents and advisors.
- Manage, develop and mentor the Finance team, fostering a strong culture of teamwork, ownership and excellence.
Tax (Secondary Role)
- Provide overall group tax leadership, including primary responsibility for tax compliance, planning and advisory.
- Business partnership with Business Units (“BUs’), to ensure tax compliance and planning for all entities in the group.
- Deliver strategic tax planning to drive lower effective global tax rates and operational initiatives.
- Make effective presentations to management including compliance, planning and tax savings opportunities.
- Review existing tax practices and provide advice to improve existing practices and render support to the BUs as required.
- Simplify group structure through regular health-checks to optimize corporate structures and achieve cost savings.
- Support corporate re-organizations, M&As, JVs and related acquisition financing, from a transaction tax optimization perspective as well as recommend the most efficient fund flows.
- Track new tax developments, evaluate implications to existing and future businesses, and deliver clear insights to management.
Requirements for the Role:
- Degree in Accountancy or equivalent from a reputable university.
- Recognised Certified Public Accounting qualification.
- At least 12 years of related working experience (with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing a large team) gained in an SGX-listed company ideally in the real estate sector.
- Experience with Big-4 audit firms, MNCs and/or SGX-listed companies is required
- Specialised tax experience gained as a accounting professional is preferred (but not a must)
- Possess a curious mind to understand business operations and finds satisfaction in making connections between operations and financial performance.
- Demonstrates strong value systems and sound judgement and conveys these values within the Finance team and across the BUs.
- Provide a strong sense of purpose, vision and leadership to a diverse and capable team of individuals in the Finance department.
