Summary/Objective
Reporting to the SVP BD of JERA Asia, the Senior Manager, Business Development will be responsible for greenfield, brownfield, mergers & acquisition (M&A) power/energy projects portfolio development particularly in the area of thermal and LNG infrastructure related opportunities, to include all development work-streams, team management (whether direct reports or functional as associated with applicable projects and/or portfolios), risk management required in relevant project development, and coordination and collaboration with all related functions (e.g. development, financing, technical etc.). The individual will work directly with the SVP BD and other members of the business development team (including JERA HQ as well as local office members in Asia) to prioritize projects and maximize value creation associated with those projects and the resultant portfolio. The candidate will have demonstrated expertise in project development, merger and acquisitions, problem solving, meticulous organization and communicating and working with diverse functional groups.
Essential Functions
- Support strategic planning initiatives for the group, helping to identify, prioritize, and execute on investment/divestment opportunities; communicate opportunities and ideas in real time to the broader team;
- Under supervision by SVP-BD, directly negotiate and provide oversight to associated team members/parties structuring/negotiating a variety of contracts associated with power/energy projects; develop contractual strategies consistent with project, regional and broader objectives and market design/ risks;
- Develop and implement creative project/debt financing and deal structuring;
- Drive project developing efforts individually and with the broader team to meet objectives as set in the Company's business strategy and plan;
- Drive business development efforts (e.g. exploration, identification, evaluation and execution of new opportunities, including M&A) directly and in conjunction with the broader team; utilize experience and industry relationships to develop new opportunities;
- Coordinate with and drive internal and external parties (i.e. all development work-streams and support functions) to minimize execution and operational risks;
- Whether in a direct or influence management role, provide guidance, direction, and education to all team members; be instrumental in managing team resources to meet company/business objectives, and maximize the bandwidth of the internal and broader teams;

- Deep understanding of value creation in power/energy assets and markets in the Asia region;
- Proven ability to structure complex project/financial transactions (including tax, equity structures), with a clear understanding of potential legal and credit issues, as well as an appreciation for the associated origination, operational and technical implications;
- Experience negotiating and executing structured financings associated with the development and purchase/sale of power/energy assets;
- Deep understanding of power/energy markets, policy and regulations, vendors, consultancy service providers, and power/energy economics in Asia;
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship management and collaboration skills within large organizations and with broad multi-parties outside organizations;
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with financing partners and counter-parties, at the individual and company level;
- Ability to summarize and present complex issues and opportunities into succinct and actionable terms;
- Ability to implement process within an interdisciplinary team setting;
- Ability to prioritize tasks to align with goals and effectively manage competing deadlines;
- Excellent organizational, presentation and verbal and written communication skills;
- Highly driven, detail-oriented and hard-working individual with high standards for self and others;
- Analytical problem-solving skills; operates with unquestioned integrity.
Proficiency in Japanese language is desirable to facilitate effective coordination and communication with counterparts and personnel at JERA in Japan.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has tangential supervisory responsibilities, meaning the supervision of team members that may not be direct reports (i.e. in a functional team environment). It may have direct supervisory responsibilities as the business grows.
Required Education and Experience ;
- University Degree (Degree of Master in Business Administration is preferable)
- 8 to 10+ years of experience in project developing, structuring, origination, finance and/or similar roles in the power/energy sectors;
