About the job
Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department - cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements - even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.
With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
You will analyze next generation mechanical systems for the data centers. Whether its Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), hydraulic piping analysis, acoustical analysis, or pipe stress analysis, they all reveal important data points in the design process to have efficient mechanical systems. You will express ideas in a concise manner through all digital mediums (design drawings, presentations, video conference discussions) both internally and with external partners. You will play a key role in providing recommendations to the cross functional engineers and architects to improve the mechanical system at a macro and micro level to accelerate construction and onsite assembly of our data centers.
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Technical Lead in Region, collaborate with Operations, Execution, and Construction teams to develop new Data Center (DC) mechanical infrastructure products and systems.
- Lead next generation mechanical system products to meet company strategies. Lead building services design with external consultants.
- Lead new technology implementation through collaboration with the core Engineering teams during development. Create system level concept and schematics designs, and carry through to detailed designs.
- Provide and prepare documents including: statement of work, engineering analysis and reports, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAC), design documents, product specifications, drawings, budget, cost estimates, schedule, and commissioning test plans.
- Perform engineering analysis using software tools. Work with internal teams (Architect, Mechanical, Electrical and Telecom Designers) to refine mechanical designs based on analysis and provide recommendations to external consultants.
