We are looking for a dynamic Fiber Optics Test Development and Assembly Support Engineer to support the development, testing, and production of high-performance fiber optic optical interconnects. This role bridges engineering and NPI, with a strong emphasis on test development, assembly troubleshooting, and electronic design support. The ideal candidate is a strong team player with hands-on experience in optical and electronic test systems, test automation (Python), communication protocols (I2C), and working knowledge of high-speed PCB design and FPGA-based systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain semi-automated test systems for optical and electronic components for R&D.
- Support the assembly and troubleshooting of fiber optic modules, including root cause analysis of failures during prototyping and production.
- Interface with and program I2C-based devices for configuration and diagnostics.
- Operate and interpret data from test instruments including power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, optical scope, BERTs, and high-speed signal analyzers.
- Assist in the design and validation of high-speed PCBs, including signal integrity review and testing.
- Work with FPGA engineers to test and validate firmware functionality during development and integration phases.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, NPI, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transfer of new designs into production.
- Create and maintain documentation including test procedures, work instructions, and technical reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in both product design and test processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field OR Diploma in electronics with > 5 years hands on experience
- 3–5+ years of experience in test engineering, preferably in fiber optics or high-speed electronics.
- Proficient in Python for test automation and data processing.
- Strong understanding of I2C communication, including debugging and register mapping.
- Hands-on experience with optical and electronic test equipment.
- Exposure to high-speed PCB design (signal integrity, layout constraints, impedance control).
- Basic familiarity with FPGA hardware and firmware, including understanding of interfaces and debug processes.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or assembly processes in a technical role.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Very strong in cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
Preferred Technical Skills:
- Experience with high-speed optical transceivers (QSFP/SFP), PAM4, or embedded optics.
- Familiarity with test data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Excel, or custom dashboards).
- Knowledge of communication protocols beyond I2C (SPI, UART, MDIO).
- Exposure to PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence) and simulation software.
- Experience with version control and test data management systems.
- Exposure to high-speed PCB design (signal integrity, layout constraints, impedance control).
Basic familiarity with FPGA hardware and firmware, including understanding of interfaces and debug processes.
