Combining a social club, co-working space, and an evolving calendar of events including discussions, parties, DJ nights, wellness sessions, and corporate launches, we create catalytic moments that stimulate both the intellect and the senses.

The Role

As the Membership Director, you will lead the strategic development and execution of the club’s membership initiatives. This includes overseeing membership growth and retention, building strategic partnerships, managing reciprocal club relationships globally, and ensuring the delivery of curated perks and experiences for members. You will lead the Membership & Engagement team to drive membership sales and deliver a consistently exceptional member experience that aligns with 1880’s brand and community values.

Responsibilities:

Membership Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies for membership acquisition, onboarding, and retention.
  • Define and monitor KPIs around member satisfaction, engagement, and growth.
  • Analyse membership and co-working trends to provide actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Own and manage the membership P&L, ensuring revenue targets, cost controls, and profitability are met.
  • Produce and present detailed monthly reports on membership and co-working performance, covering financial metrics, occupancy, retention, pipeline activity, and engagement levels.

Partnerships, Perks & Reciprocal Clubs

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships that can also serve as channels for new member acquisition, including collaborations with aligned businesses, networks, and communities.
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships to enhance the membership offering (e.g., wellness, dining, travel, lifestyle brands).
  • Oversee the execution of member perks and ensure alignment with the club’s identity and values.
  • Design co-branded activations and campaigns with partners to increase visibility and attract high-quality prospective members.
  • Evaluate partnership performance, ensuring outcomes are measurable, beneficial to members, and aligned with overall membership strategy.
  • Manage and nurture relationships with reciprocal clubs globally.
  • Evaluate potential new reciprocal relationships and ensure alignment with 1880’s standards.
  • Ensure smooth communication and booking processes between clubs.

Community Engagement

  • Cultivate a vibrant and inclusive club community through events, programming, and digital engagement.
  • Maintain a strong presence in the club to foster relationships with members and gather feedback.
  • Identify high-potential members to act as ambassadors or community leaders within the club.

Bardo Oversight & Co-Working Management

  • Oversee Bardo, the club’s co-working space, ensuring it meets revenue goals, service standards, and member engagement targets.
  • Support and guide the Bardo Manager to align operations with 1880’s overall strategy.
  • Drive tenant engagement and community-building within the space.
  • Monitor performance and integrate Bardo updates into monthly membership and financial reporting.

Systems & Processes

  • Oversee the use of CRM and membership databases to ensure accurate records and reporting.
  • Work with the marketing team to ensure consistent and compelling communication to members.
  • Continuously improve internal systems for application processing, member feedback, and engagement tracking.

Requirements:

  • Min 5 years of experience in either business development/ growth/ sales in an hospitality environment (ie. hotels, MICE, private members club, etc)
  • Proven success in driving revenue
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • A deep understanding of luxury service standards and high-net-worth clientele.
  • Passion for community building, culture, and experiences that connect people meaningfully.
