Job Summary:
The Senior Resident Engineer (Tunnel) is responsible for supervising and managing all on-site tunneling construction activities to ensure compliance with the project design, technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The SRE (Tunnel) will serve as the primary liaison between the consultant team, contractors, and relevant authorities for tunneling works.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily tunneling construction activities including excavation, lining, segment installation, TBM/NATM operations, and ground improvement works.
- Ensure that all tunneling works are executed in accordance with approved construction drawings, specifications, and method statements.
- Review and endorse contractor submissions such as method statements, risk assessments, ITPs, and work schedules related to tunneling works.
- Monitor progress and quality of tunneling works; raise and document any non-conformances or safety violations.
- Coordinate with geotechnical and instrumentation teams to assess ground movement, settlement, and structural integrity during tunneling.
- Inspect and witness testing of materials and equipment such as tunnel lining segments, grouting, waterproofing systems, etc.
- Maintain accurate site records, prepare inspection reports, and submit daily/weekly progress updates.
- Attend site meetings and liaise with client representatives, contractors, and authorities (e.g. LTA, PUB, BCA).
- Ensure site safety protocols are enforced in compliance with the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act and project-specific requirements.
Requirements:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Be an engineer in the civil/structural discipline with qualification accreditation by JAC of IES/ACES.
- Be accredited as RE (Tunnel) under IES/ACES specialist accreditation programme.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant site supervision experience, with at least 4 years in tunnel construction (e.g., TBM, NATM, pipe jacking).
- Good knowledge of local codes and practices such as LTA, PUB, and BCA requirements.
- Familiar with tunneling machinery, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Able to work independently and in a team under demanding schedules.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Shall meet the required minimum hours of work per month - Base Monthly Work Hours which shall be computed based on fifty-six (56) hours a week.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with instrumentation and monitoring systems for tunneling projects.
- Experience with civil infrastructure projects such as MRT, DTSS, or utility tunnels.
