We are looking for a Senior/System Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and support our growing infrastructure. You will be part of an IT team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available systems and network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs.
As a Senior/System Engineer, you will work in a dynamic team environment and be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the global backbone and internet peering infrastructure. You will carry out regular system maintenance to patch, migrate, upgrade, and augment the infrastructure that supports both internal and external customers.
You are also expected to participate in system and network design, as well as the definition and development of tooling and automation to enable large-scale deployment and operations. You will collaborate with vendors on bug fixes and new features, while liaising with peers in Network, Operations, Engineering, and Architecture to ensure alignment of technical requirements.
The successful candidate will need to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with the ability to multi-task and provide not only operational support for the backbone, but also work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve critical IT incidents. Make an impact by
- Perform daily IT operations support for all IT infrastructure, systems (servers, virtualization, etc.), data backup & storage, and IT assets.
- Responsible for infrastructure-related activities including evaluation, implementation, equipment upgrades, maintenance, and support.
- Liaise and align with the software development team for escalations, project implementation and management, redundancy, and high-availability solutions.
- Manage outsourced partners and third-party service providers to ensure service levels and quality of services provided.
- Coordinate disaster recovery drills, planning, and execution.
- Ensure departmental systems comply with all Nxera IT policies (e.g., processes, security, privacy, etc.).
o Support all audits based on these policies.
o Plan and follow up on remediation for any non-compliance.
Manage IT projects.:
o Review, plan, and execute annual VAPT and ITDR for all systems.
o Plan and execute tech refresh, upgrades, new initiatives, etc.
- Manage IT vendors.
- Manage IT assets (both software and hardware), including tracking and recording IT equipment and applying security patches/updates.
Champion digitization initiatives:
o Process optimization.
o Automation, including the use of AI/ML where possible.
o Business intelligence, big data, analytics, enhanced SLA reporting.
- Support optimization of energy use (green initiatives).
- Adopt predictive rather than reactive management of departmental activities (e.g., maintenance, capacity planning, reporting) and resources.
- Respond to and resolve technical issues, including troubleshooting servers, software, networks, security, and application problems. Ensure IT security by maintaining user access controls, managing software licenses, coordinating security awareness training, and assisting with the implementation of security policies and procedures.
Skills for success
- At least 5–8 years of experience in system operations and/or system design.
- University degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Knowledge of system administration (Windows, Unix, VMware, etc.).
- Experience in integrating services between various systems.
- Good understanding of internet technologies.
- Experience in system design and architecture.
- Experience in project and vendor management.
- Familiarity with popular cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with vulnerability assessment and penetration testing (VAPT) tools is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, a good team player, and willing to learn new skill sets.
