Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Retail Butcher Manager to support the daily operations of our butchery. This role combines hands-on meat preparation with leadership responsibilities, ensuring high standards of product quality, food safety, and customer service. You will assist in supervising the butchery team, managing stock levels, and driving operational efficiency, while also engaging with customers to deliver an exceptional retail experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily butchery operations, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to quality standards.
- Cut, trim, debone, and prepare meats (beef & lamb) to specifications when required.
- Ensure all meat products are stored, handled, and displayed in compliance with food safety regulations.
- Supervise, train, and mentor butchery staff to maintain skill standards and service excellence.
- Monitor inventory levels, manage stock rotation, and assist with ordering to ensure consistent product availability.
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and safety across workstations, tools, and equipment.
- Assist in implementing cost control measures and minimizing product waste.
- Support the Butchery Manager in scheduling, reporting, and driving sales initiatives.
- Provide expert recommendations to customers on cuts, preparation, and cooking methods, enhancing the overall shopping experience.
- Step up to lead the department in the Manager’s absence.
Requirements:
- Prior experience in a butchery environment, with supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of meat cuts, quality standards, and preparation techniques.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage staff scheduling, training, and performance effectively.
- Strong commitment to hygiene, safety, and operational excellence.
- Physically fit and able to handle the demands of a butchery environment (lifting, equipment handling).
- Certification in food hygiene and safety.
