The Role
The Head of Marine Insurance for Asia will be responsible for leading and managing the Marine Insurance portfolio, driving product development, and ensuring the achievement of business goals.
This role requires a strategic leader with strong underwriting expertise, strong industry relationships, excellent team management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various departments to enhance organizational efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Business and Marketing Strategy:
- Own and execute the business and marketing plan for the Marine portfolio.
- Develop and implement strategies to grow the Marine insurance business in the region.
Product Development:
- Lead the development of Marine insurance products, from initial concept to market launch.
- Ensure product wordings are comprehensive and competitive.
Underwriting and Claims Management:
- Own and maintain the Marine Underwriting manual.
- Establish and oversee a Marine claims management strategy in collaboration with the Claims Manager.
- Ensure underwriting quality and timely responses that meet or exceed company standards.
- Treaty Management
- Data accuracy and analysis
Team Leadership:
- Build, lead, train, develop, and supervise the Marine Underwriting Team.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
Financial and Operational Management:
- Establish budgets and goals in coordination with senior management and business strategy.
- Work with finance and business support teams to ensure accurate reporting and ongoing management reports to monitor portfolio performance.
- Ensure budget goals are met in terms of revenue and expenses.
Process Improvement:
- Continually seek ways to improve organizational efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability. (QPS & Tracker +)
- Work with Support Services to ensure systems requirements are specified and business needs are met.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Participate in relevant professional organizations as a representative of the company.
- Engage with key stakeholders to promote the Marine insurance portfolio.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the senior management team.
- Participate in goal setting, planning, and executive decision-making processes.
The Candidate - Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- At least 10 years of Insurance industry experience in underwriting and / or broking.
- Successful management of a national/regional portfolio of business
- Excellent knowledge of Marine products and market within Singapore/Asia
- Ability to hire and build teams of underwriters
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, peers, executive leadership, brokers and others
- Ability to negotiate and/or approve insurance quotations
- High levels of numeracy
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Operation of Excel, Lotus Notes and all standard business computer programs
- Ability to combine entrepreneurial, commercial approach with prudent underwriting
