About the Role
The APAC Marine Technology Development Manager will play a key role in driving technology innovation, OEM engagement, and industry collaboration to strengthen Lubrizol’s marine business across the region. This role will lead strategic technology initiatives, manage product development, and support market growth through close partnerships with customers, OEMs, and industry stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
OEM Engagement & Support
- Conduct regular meetings with Asian OEMs to explore future market trends and identify collaboration opportunities.
- Support OEM approvals and maintain strong partnerships in coordination with the OEM Account Manager.
General Sales Customer Engagements
- Hold regular discussions with key customer technology teams to assess future trends and review joint development opportunities.
- Drive initiatives on:
- Alternative fuels formulations.
- Regulatory-compliant future products.
- Bright stock alternatives.
Marine Product Supply Localization
- Serve as the focal point for global marine product platform manufacturing localization efforts.
Industry Liaison
- Engage with APAC-based external stakeholders including industry associations, ship owners, and base oil suppliers to foster collaboration and market insights.
Technology Research & Development
- Build and maintain partnerships for external bench and engine testing resources.
- Lead formulation work for the General Sales platform, including:
- Optimization of current phenate products (treat rates, cost efficiency, source localization, OEM approvals).
- Development of a new PDDP-free platform (component sourcing, cost alignment, PNR processes).
Budget Management
- Oversee the global Marine DTE budget, ensuring alignment of spending with strategic priorities.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to manage project prioritization.
Ship Trial Management
- Plan and maintain a 3-year ship trial schedule, including vessel sourcing and relationship management.
- Manage ship trial activities end-to-end—from sample preparation and production to delivery, post-trial analysis, and securing OEM approvals.
Regional Technology Support
- Act as the regional technology resource for product integrity matters.
- Guide the regional technology deployment team on project scoping, budgeting, and execution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in marine lubricants, additives, or related chemical industries.
- Strong network within the marine industry (OEMs, ship owners, suppliers).
- Track record in technology development, OEM approvals, and product formulation.
- Excellent stakeholder management, project leadership, and communication skills.
