Job Summary
M Diagnostics is a CAP- accredited clinical laboratory. We provide clinical services to our clients. The Medical Technologist will perform laboratory tests, assist in receiving, processing samples and carry out specialized investigation of patient samples. In addition, you will perform on-going quality control checks to ensure test results are precise and accurate. The role requires the individual to have a high level of attention to detail, be proactive and work well under pressure.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Receive, verify, accession, and process patient specimens according to SOPs, ensuring proper sample identification and handling.
- Perform moderate- to high-complexity molecular assays, including nucleic acid extraction, RT-qPCR, and related quality checks.
- Set up, operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments (e.g., qPCR machines, extraction systems) in accordance with manufacturer and CAP requirements.
- Review, analyze, and interpret test results; verify results before release and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Conduct and document daily quality control (QC), proficiency testing, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
- Adhere to CAP, ISO 15189, and Ministry of Health regulatory standards, including accurate record-keeping and documentation.
- Participate in method verification, validation studies, and new assay development.
- Assist in training junior staff and maintaining competency records.
- Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment, complying with biosafety and chemical safety guidelines.
- Monitor and manage laboratory inventory, including ordering, receiving, and tracking reagents, consumables, and supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Identify and report deviations, non-conformances, or instrument issues promptly to the supervisor.
- Periodically review and recommend updates to SOPs and workflows to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager or Section Head.
Desired Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related discipline (recognised by Singapore MOH for Medical Technologist role).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in molecular diagnostics, preferably in a CAP-accredited or ISO 15189-certified clinical laboratory.
- Hands-on experience with RT-qPCR assays, nucleic acid extraction, and molecular data analysis.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic documentation systems.
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality management systems, including QC, proficiency testing, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in inventory control and reagent stock management is an advantage.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Able to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-throughput laboratory setting with strict turnaround times.
- Willingness to work occasional evening shifts and Saturday rotations as required by operational needs.
