About the Division/Dept

The Underwriting & Products Department is responsible for all underwriting governance, product management and portfolio management of the Company.

Job Purpose

As an Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in supporting product management, underwriting governance and portfolio monitoring matters to achieve company's twin objectives of GWP growth and underwriting profitability.

Main Responsibilities

Underwriting Governance

• Support in the review and documentation of the underwriting manual, guidelines improvements in accordance to the Company’s risk appetite statement and strategy.
• Support in the review and documentation of authority delegation table in accordance to each underwriter’s technical know-how and experience.
• Review and maintain the underwriting workflow, checklist and documentation requirement.
• Conduct underwriting audit and peer review.

Product Management

• Conduct market analysis and competitor research to ensure our product(s) remain competitive.
• Review existing product and develop new innovative insurance product(s) from time to time to meet the current market demands.
• Support in conducting product training and develop underwriting resources (e.g. wordings, UW and pricing tools)

Portfolio Management

• Monitor the overall portfolio including gross/net underwriting profitability, actual vs forecast.
• Analyse major loss trends and provide underwriting improvement recommendation, including coverage, pricing, underwriting risk selection criteria, etc.
• Monitor macro- & micro-environment and provide pre-emptive underwriting insights.

Requirements

• Minimally Degree or equivalent
• Possess BCP/CGI/PGI/HI Certification. ACII an advantage.
• Minimally 5 years’ experience in underwriting the commercial and/or personal lines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in English. Chinese / other SEA language an advantage.
• Excellent customer-mindedness with good interpersonal and communications skills.
• Meticulous, organised and able to multi-task efficiently.
• Able to work well independent and in a team environment.
