Reports to: Lead Mechanical Engineer
Position Summary:
To create and develop innovative and robust designs by studying product requirements; conferring with equipment suppliers and manufacturers. Monitor the whole manufacturing process from concept design to product implementation, enabling reliable manufacture of our revolutionary radiotherapy treatment systems.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or willingness to pursue certification (if applicable).
- Minimum of 3 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably within the medical device or regulated industry.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD); experience with PDM systems is a plus.
- Solid understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, machining, 3D printing), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Working knowledge of ISO 13485 quality management systems and regulatory compliance standards such as FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and CE Marking.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) for mechanical and structural analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts.
- Team-oriented mindset with a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional development environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to the design and development of mechanical systems and components for innovative medical devices from concept through commercialization.
- Create and manage detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and documentation in accordance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Perform feasibility studies, tolerance analysis, and risk assessments to guide design decisions.
- Conduct mechanical and structural simulations, including stress and fatigue analysis, using FEA tools to validate design integrity.
- Develop and execute test protocols and verification/validation activities to ensure product safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineering, quality assurance, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical feedback to optimize function, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for design refinement, process optimization, and cost reduction.
- Maintain clear and organized technical documentation to support design history files and regulatory submissions.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, materials, and regulatory trends relevant to medical device development.
