Reports to: Head of Product Development
Position Summary:
As a key member of the Product Development Team, you will play a critical role in the end-to-end development of complex systems for cutting-edge medical device solutions. This position is responsible for contributing to the specification, design, development, integration, and validation of robust and reliable system-level architectures.
You will oversee the delivery of compliant and high-performance systems, including the installation, configuration, and testing of operating systems, application software, and infrastructure management tools. This role ensures maximum system availability and performance, while also supporting warranty and post-deployment service activities. Your work will span the full product development lifecycle, following the principles outlined in ISO 15288 (Systems and Software Engineering – System Life Cycle Processes), and will include both system-level and project-level processes. Development approaches will be tailored as needed to meet business needs, while ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards applicable to the medical device industry.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Systems). Candidates with other degrees and equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- Proven experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA).
- Experience in the development of medical devices, including an understanding of usability engineering and human factors in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with UML or SysML modeling, ideally using tools such as Enterprise Architect.
- Strong working knowledge of the regulatory frameworks governing the medical device industry (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA, IEC 62366).
- Excellent analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Strong commitment to quality engineering practices and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage across disciplines, both in person and remotely, through written and verbal communication.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally as required
Systems Engineering Lifecycle Responsibilities:
- Ensure systems engineering activities are executed in alignment with ISO 15288, including but not limited to:
- Stakeholder Analysis & Requirements Definition
- System Architecture Design & Decomposition
- Development Support & Integration
- Verification, Acceptance, and Deployment
- Operational Support & Product Retirement
Project and Process Management:
Work in close partnership with project management to support the following:
- Project Planning & Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development
- Project Monitoring & Control
- Configuration Management and Change Control
- Information & Interface Management
- Risk Management and Mitigation Strategies
Specialist Focus Areas:
- Ensure system designs meet all relevant safety and security standards, including compliance with applicable regulatory and industry-specific requirements.
Project and Process Management:
Work in close partnership with project management to support the following:
- Project Planning & Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development
- Project Monitoring & Control
- Configuration Management and Change Control
- Information & Interface Management
- Risk Management and Mitigation Strategies
